James Otis has been a real estate broker for over 25 years having started in the Los Angeles market. James has had a mult-faceted professional life. Originally studying to become an actor at New York University, School of the Arts in New York City. While at New York University, as part of the curriculum, he also had the privilege of studying with Stella Adler, a renowned teacher. Shortly after graduating, James worked in regional theater, product modeling and singing at various New York Upper Eastside venues including The Sign of the Dove. Afterwards, James ventured into the world of cable television and worked in production for the new start up, Nickelodeon, which transcended his move into becoming a marketing executive, selling the first children's programming package to major cable networks, HBO and Showtime. This led to his marketing children's programming to worldwide markets.
Later, having decided to have his own television distribution business, James endeavored independently, continuing selling children's programming both domestic and international, with extensive trade show experience. It is during this time, James developed personal business skills with international programming buyers, especially Europe and Australia, developing the skill of creating strong business relationships.
Subsequently later in the mid 1990's, having lived in New York for over 20 years, James relocated to Los Angeles, California to work in program development. Later, having the desire to venture into a new profession, James became a licensed Realtor, incorporating his marketing, relationship and sales skills, helping clients, especially first time buyers, find beautiful homes that met their specific needs. James is an avid listener, focused completely on his client's needs, and acting with full fiduciary responsibilities and for his client's best interests.
Having moved to Columbia, South Carolina seven years ago, James took the time to provide valuations and broker price opinions for banks and Clear Capital. Through his work, James gained a thorough knowledge of a large part of the entire South Carolina market and real estate values. James has joined Home Advantage Realty, to pass on his entire business experience in helping buyers in all aspects of finding beautiful properties for both first time buyers and experienced investors.
During his free time, James loves spending time with his family, and having interests in antiques, interior design and architecture. Also James enjoys singing in the choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia as well as with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus. James is an advocate for animal rights and takes great joy with his terrier mix, Bobby and his Labradoodle, Teddy.
